Our Name
For this is what the high and lofty One says -- he who lives forever, whose name is holy: "I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite." - Isaiah 57:15 NIV
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died (to yourselves), and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. - Col. 3:1-3 NIV
These scriptures identify God as present in truly the highest places. They also indicate His desire to be intimately involved with His creation - above all with individuals who are down, out and broken. Jesus, God the Son, is our prime example. Those who place faith and trust in Him are identified in scripture as being eternally with Him at the right hand of God the Father (wherever that happens to be). Our ministries focus on encouraging people to grow in this eternal relationship that they might increasingly experience life to the fullest.
Our Leadership
Leadership in the New Testament church consisted of people who were divinely "inspired", "led" and/or "called" and then further developed as pastors, teachers, elders and overseers of the church and its ministries. We embrace the New Testament pattern. High Places leadership is made up of people who have humbly demonstrated faithfulness, availablity and teachablity and their primary commitment is one of service toward others through the exercise of their gifts and talents.
High Places leadership is united by a common commitment to core values of the church, which consist of our theology (beliefs) and philosophy of church (ministry principles). Together they pursue wisdom & direction regarding our church and it's ministries. Input and feedback from the church family is highly valued and received in a variety of ways as a part of that process. Ultimately church decisions are made by church leadership.
Our Style
Primarily, we are a laid-back and highly relational church. We aim to be creative and culturally relevant in our approach to programming and activities. Essential to our growth and development is organization, but only in the sense that it serves individuals. Although we are casual, there is organizational structure and considerable preparation in all that we do.
Freedom to be real is an important part of who we are. We believe that an environment that encourages authenticity is one that ultimately draws us into a real relationship with God and others. We accept that life can be quite "messy" & that includes our spiritual lives as well.
